NVIDIA introduces the ConnectX-8 SuperNICs, enhancing AI platform architecture with PCIe Gen6 connectivity, aiming to streamline server design and improve scalability and performance.
NVIDIA has announced the release of its ConnectX-8 SuperNICs, a novel integration aimed at advancing AI platform architecture through PCIe Gen6 connectivity. As the demand for more complex AI workloads grows, this innovation seeks to offer a faster, more scalable compute infrastructure, according to NVIDIA.
Revolutionizing AI Infrastructure
The ConnectX-8 SuperNICs are the first in the industry to integrate a PCIe Gen6-capable switch with ultra-high-speed networking into a single device. This design is set to enhance throughput and simplify system architecture, leading to improvements in power and cost efficiency for AI infrastructure.
The integration of 48 lanes of PCIe Gen6 connectivity with an internal PCIe Gen6 switch is a significant leap. By consolidating GPU-to-GPU and GPU-to-NIC communication, the ConnectX-8 reduces the necessity for discrete PCIe switches, thereby simplifying board design and reducing the overall component count.
Enhancing Enterprise Workloads
Now in full production, the ConnectX-8 SuperNICs are incorporated into NVIDIA’s HGX B300 and GB300 NVL72 systems, as highlighted during COMPUTEX 2025. These systems are featured in NVIDIA RTX PRO Servers, which can support configurations with up to eight RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs.
The new server design eliminates the complexity of traditional setups by replacing standalone PCIe switches with integrated ConnectX-8 SuperNICs. This innovative architecture supports up to 400 Gb/s of network bandwidth per GPU, doubling the network bandwidth and significantly reducing system complexity.
Future of PCIe-Based AI Systems
NVIDIA ConnectX-8 is reshaping the landscape for PCIe-based systems. By combining a PCIe Gen6 switch with high-performance networking into a single device, it simplifies server design, reduces component count, and enables the high-bandwidth communication needed for contemporary AI workloads.
At COMPUTEX 2025, several data center partners, including ASRock Rack, ASUS, and GIGABYTE, showcased AI platform architectures powered by NVIDIA ConnectX-8 SuperNICs. These integrations are a testament to the potential of ConnectX-8 in shaping next-generation AI infrastructure.
